departs Framewerk Gallery, Upper Newtownards Road
16th March: 11.00am – 1.00pm

This bus tour uncovers a hidden Gaelic history of East Belfast, from the ill-starred chieftain Conn O’Neill to the family raised entirely in Irish on the Castlereagh Road in the 1950s.

Discover the church that had a curate who spoke Antrim Irish and the activities of the Ballymacarrett, Bloomfield and Breda branches of the Gaelic League. East Belfast has many townlands with Irish language roots. Some, like Knock and Ballyhackamore are well-known; others such as Multyhogy and Carnamuck are obscure. These will be introduced as the bus travels through the townlands. This tour has limited capacity.
