A discussion about Belfast’s night-time economy and if we need a Night Mayor to put across the case for the city’s bars, clubs, venues and restaurants.
The issue of a night mayor for major cities is something which has come up again and again in the last number of years. If a city is serious about making the most of its nightlife, it stands to reason that they should also be serious about making sure there’s someone there to implement and oversee a proper strategy.
Given that Paris, Zurich, Toulouse, Groningen, Amsterdam, London and Nijmegen already have a night mayor – and New York is currently recruiting one – is it time for Belfast to join the gang?
A panel discussion will feature various interested parties discussing if we need a champion at city council level to represent night-time activity, how a night mayor concept might work, what it might mean for event organisers, the popularity of the idea amongst local policy makers and how it could be made happen.
