A play by John McCann

DUPed is an award-winning one man play proudly made in Dundee! The Reverend Ian Richard Kyle Paisley was a firebrand, fundamentalist preacher from the heart of Ulster’s Bible Belt. He espoused populist, hardline unionist politics and was viewed as a bogeyman or bellwether by generations across these islands.

Using interviews with activists and journalists, DUPed explores the legacy and continuing impact of Rev Ian Paisley and the Democratic Unionist Party. Written and performed by John McCann, two-time Scotsman Fringe First Winner, (SPOILING, Traverse Theatre 2014; DUPed, Sweet Venues 2018) and directed by Erasmus Mackenna.

“McCann is a clear and evocative storyteller, and the journey he takes us on is captivating – yet the real power of his play is in its finale.” The Scotsman, August 2018

“DUPed is a masterpiece in conversational storytelling. Edinburgh Festivals Magazine, August 2018
