Gallery, Ulster University Belfast Campus
26th March: 6.00pm – 7.00pm

In ‘The Souvenir Shop’, artist Rita Duffy examines the absurd nature of the symbols of the 1916 Easter Rising and the Great War backdrop, the borders between the nascent republic and the changing orders of European ascendancies.

In addition to this, she elaborates the fetishised nature of what remains after revolution: the appropriation of symbols that remain; emotions that are neutralised and de-humanised; and what survival requires. Rita will deliver an illustrated lecture on the theme of ‘neither here nor there’ immediately after this launch. She is also organising an afternoon workshop on 27th March. Registration is required for both events – see below.

Supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
