‘Hard Hat’ tour of the elegant Carnegie Oldpark Library
Carnegie Library: abandoned by the public sector, and now a community asset – come see our reading rooms and our gargoyles.

Andrew Carnegie, the Scots-American entrepreneur and philanthropist, endowed 2,500 libraries across the English-speaking world, including 66 on the island of Ireland, dubbing them his ‘Palaces of Learning’.

Why? Was he a radical? A reader? A religious man, perhaps, as author of The Gospel of Wealth?

Learn about Carnegie and the history of this particular library, now reclaimed for the community of Belfast, through a hard hat tour (wrap up well!) – explore the reading rooms, exclaim at the woodwork, plaster, cornicing, metals, tiles and more!
