Loving Earth: The Exhibition
A display of textile panels that focus on places, people and things that are loved and how these can be affected by our ways of living and being.
The Loving Earth Project celebrates places, people, and other living and non-living things that we love but which are threatened by the climatic and ecological emergencies. It offers a way to engage creatively and constructively with difficult issues, without being overwhelmed – and to share our responses, visually and verbally, with others.
Loving Earth is a civic initiative, conceived and developed by Quakers in Britain and now involving diverse people from various parts of the world. Individuals and groups are invited to explore how the future of something, someone, or somewhere that they love is affected by their day-to-day decisions and actions. Those participating seek first to envisage how their caring concern can be shared with others visually. Then each person works to realise their vision in the form of a small (30cm by 30com) textile panel and composes an accompanying commentary.
The Loving Earth Exhibition at Imagine! 2022 will display a selection of 50 panels from the hundreds that have been created thus far. The exhibition will be located in a setting that allows for attentive viewing and quiet reflection.
