Responding to COVID through Comedy
With Emer Maguire.
Emer Maguire is an award-winning musical comedian, BBC radio presenter and science communicator. In 2020, Emer left her secure career as a speech and language therapist in the NHS to pursue full time comedy, just as the world fell into a global pandemic. As they say in comedy …it’s all about the timing. In an attempt to look on the brightside as a way of getting through this difficult time, Emer is using laughter to make herself (and those around her) feel better. Emer has created a one-of-a-kind online musical comedy set that will reminisce over the events of the past year throughout a lighthearted, hilarious, and occasionally poignant manner.
Songs will explore how we have adjusted to life in lockdown, the trials and tribulations of working from home, the great masking debate, and more. The comedy songs aim to look at how we as a society have responded to certain situations collectively – while also raising a smile.
Emer Maguire is an international award-winning science communicator turned musical comedy success story. She is a double Irish Radio award winning BBC presenter, and a unique event host and MC. Her debut solo musical comedy show ‘Emer Maguire: Hilarious Humans’ sold out its debut run in Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year with unprecedented demand. Emer has performed at festivals and venues all over the world and loves nothing more than making people laugh along with her. With previous stellar performances in stalwart Belfast venues such as the Mac Theatre, the Black Box, Titanic Belfast and Strand Cinema, October 2021 see’s Emer take her brand new show ‘Emer Maguire – In Her Element’ to the iconic Ulster Hall in Belfast.
