Sherine Tadros: Taking Sides: A talk about Love, War and Changing the World
Award-winning former war correspondent Sherine Tadros explains how she swapped career to become a human rights activist and gives a passionate defence of human rights in an age of rising authoritarianism.
Sherine found it tough to remain as a neutral journalist during her days working for Sky News and Al Jazeera when she reported from war zones and witnessed brutal state repression. However, it wasn’t until her fiancé left her on her wedding day that she says she found the courage to follow her true purpose. Tadros explains how she now fights injustice through her work as a lobbyist at Amnesty International.
She is currently deputy director of advocacy and representative to the United Nations for Amnesty International. She was previously Middle East correspondent and news anchor for Al Jazeera English and Sky News and covered the Gaza Wars of 2008 and 2014, the Arab Uprisings, and the rise of the Islamic State group in Iraq. She has won awards for her human rights work and journalism including a Peabody Award, an Emmy nomination, and several Royal Television Society awards.
