Queen’s Film Theatre, 20 University Square
26th March: 6.00pm – 9.30pm
A showing of No Stone Unturned followed by post-film discussion with journalists about the themes of the film.
Ciarán Hanna (InsideIreland.ie) will discuss the themes of investigative journalism and the threats posed to it with a local journalist and then there will be a showing of Alex Gibney’s 2017 documentary about the 1994 Loughinisland pub massacre, No Stone Unturned. Ten years of research went into the documentary film, which tells the story of a brutal shooting in a country pub when masked men gunned down locals, leaving six dead and five injured. It also reveals a litany of alleged corruption involving police, paramilitary gangs and the army – before, during and after the killings.
Barry McCaffrey the reporter on the film is an award-winning Belfast investigative journalist. Both Trevor Birney, the producer of No Stone Unturned, and Barry McCaffrey were arrested in 2018 in relation to the research documents that were used in the making of the documentary. There will also be a post panel-discussion and a Q&A with those associated with the film.
This event has been organised by InsideIreland.ie and the National Union of Journalists.
