Will Democracy Die in the Algorithm?
Will the impacts of social media and the ‘algorithm’ on group identity, societal structures and democratic debate finally destroy the centre on which western democracies have maintained themselves? What is going on and what impact will future developments have?
Part of:

The Western world has experienced a series of tumultuous health, economic and societal shifts in the new millennium as well as longer term negative trends emerging from globalism. This has been matched by a period of innovation in technology that has created surveillance capitalism driven by algorithms.
The result of all of this has been a decade of major political upheaval. Is it adjustment pains or is western democracy being eaten from the inside by cyber tribes?
Lee Reynolds, a former Special Adviser, Party Policy and Strategy Director and City Councillor, will set out these trends and impacts and discuss what the future may hold which will be followed by a conversation with Alan Meban and an audience Q&A.
Alan Meban blogs about cinema and theatre over at Alan in Belfast.
