open call: the public pulpit

Do you have something you would like to share? An idea or opinion that you hold strongly, a project that you are working on that needs a platform, a story that deserves an audience? Are you part of a campaign, volunteer or charity organisation and want to make your voice heard? Are you an artist, researcher or creative practitioner with a desire to share your insights with the wider public?

As part of Imagine! 2018, artist and architecture graduate Ben Weir is constructing The Public Pulpit, a temporary installation that offers the public an open platform for discourse about the contemporary city. Located on Talbot Street, The Public Pulpit brings a powerful and authoritative architectural object, the pulpit, out into urban space. In doing so, a dissolution of hierarchies occurs where people are free to speak ‘from the pulpit.’

Imagine! is taking expressions of interest for speakers to instigate the Pulpit’s action in the city. Sermons should only be around 5-10 minutes in length, and can be anything from poetry to an academic lecture. The Public Pulpit will happen on the 17th March and begin at midday until 6pm. Please email a short bio, a title and no more than 150 words description of your sermon to Please indicate a time which would best suit you to deliver the sermon, a schedule shall be arranged through further correspondence with applicants.

If you would like to participate, please contact us before 5.00pm, 15 March, using the above email address.
