Are you bored with the binary Protestant v Catholic reified story of Belfast?

Curious about the insides of churches you might usually pass by and ignore?

Artist Bronagh Lawson, after setting up and running cross border cross community programmes for 13 years, was drawn to finding out what was really happening in Belfast’s Churches. A non-church goer she went on an odyssey around every faith community in Belfast over a period of 13 years and discovered a world that few realise exists and published a book called Belfast: City of Light about the experience. Join her as she takes you on an East West journey via the Gilder inside a number of churches – some of which are rarely open to the general public and see what she found out.

As well as registering for the tour, people need to purchase a Glider day bus ticket.

Bronagh Lawson is a multi-disciplinary artist, curator and author based in Belfast She writes a weekly art column for Belfast Media Group and has attended hundreds of art exhibitions over the last 15 years. She has published a book Belfast: City of Light, based on her experience of visiting every church in Belfast for a service over a 13 year period.

She is a Fulbright scholar and has won awards for her work with Arts and Alzheimer’s with the Ulster Museum, a regional digital heroes award for her setting up and running of an online network for artists and galleries and is currently setting up an assisted studio for artists with disabilities. She is currently chair of Bbeyond, a former chair of Pssquared, Belfast Print Workshop and the Women’s Tec. Bronagh studied at Winchester School of Art, Bristol Polytechnic and Parsons School of Art New York and her work is in numerous collections including the office of public works, Irish Architectural archive, Belfast Health and social care trust and National Museum’s Northern Ireland.

The tour will begin promptly in Dundonald Park and Ride car park. The tour will end in Belfast city centre, or else people can make their way back to Dundonald Park and Ride car park on the Glider.
