Faerie Press is an independent publishing press based in Belfast. Started in 2023 by a small group of LGBTQ+ people, we’re the first organisation of our kind on the island of Ireland. In this workshop, we’re giving people the opportunity to try Blackout Poetry.
Blackout Poetry is a type of poetry created by blacking or crossing out certain sections / lines of pre-existing poetry pieces. It gives new meaning to old texts, and it’s a wonderful way to see how people interpret different pieces. Blackout poetry is not just created from poems, it can also be created from old books, newspapers or magazines! We would be doing a workshop where people are free to drop in as they please, pick out a piece of poetry we have provided, and interpret it however they wish! There are no limits on what people can make.
