Join dream-activist Kate Alderton for a two-hour workshop that taps into the insight and power held in our collective dreaming.
In this session, we’ll gather together and take turns speaking our night-time dreams old and new, weaving a cohesive picture. It’s not about interpreting personal meaning, but about listening to how our dreams connect with one another and how our inner worlds reflect the world around us. We’ll focus on the collective experience of dreams, rather than the individual dreamer, and look for connections between them.
By sharing dreams, we’ll create a shared map of meaning that can help us navigate complex societal issues like technology, connection, and humanity.
The practice of Social Dreaming is a way of exploring dreams together, using imagination and creativity to uncover insights about our world. It allows us to step beyond polarised thinking, shift our perspectives, and explore the unknown with openness. Expect connection, curiosity, and a spirit of play.
No prior experience is needed – just bring an open mind and a willingness to listen and share.
Social Dreaming was discovered and developed by Gordon Lawrence at The Tavistock Institute and is a practice of sharing and working with dreams in a social space.
It’s different from other forms of dream work in that it works with dreams collectively, in a non-interpretive way, building up pictures of our shared unconscious as a reflection of what is happening in the wider world.
Kate Alderton is a theatre director, actress and dream worker. Her recent collaboration with musician and film director Tim Arnold’s Super Connected multimedia project, is an ongoing exploration into how technology affects human connection.
In collaboration with Tim also she provides workshops for people seeking ways to navigate digital life, including their signature ‘Screenless Social’ and ‘Social Dreaming’* events.
Kate brings dreamers together to explore the innate intelligence, creativity, and social insight that can be accessed through collective dreaming to rethink our societal challenges.
Her blend of theatre, deep listening, dream-activism, and embodied dreaming has fed into a large-scale community art pilgrimage to CERN, Artist Residencies for Dream Palace in Cairo and Athens, community dream-led grief rituals, and deep listening sound art exhibitions.
As well as being a certificate graduate in Dream Tending at Pacifica Institute, her training includes Process Work with Arnold Mindell, The Centre for Social Dreaming and eco-artistic community Damanhur. She is currently a student with Anima Mundi School on their 3 year ‘Ecologies of the Imagination’ programme.
