Conflict and triumph in musical form appear in this Ulster Orchestra programme, through Shostakovich’s reflection of the futility of war in his Chamber Symphony in F Major and Mendelssohn’s celebration of the tercentenary of the Protestant Reformation. Weinberg’s First Flute Concerto, by turns cheerful and melancholy, sits neatly between both. There is a pre-concert talk taking place at 7:00pm.
