Accidental Scratch Night: Marx In Soho

theatre+drama

This reimagining of Howard Zinn’s Marx in Soho seeks to uncover the local and contemporary relevance of Karl Marx’s ideas.

THURSDAY 26TH MARCH

8:00PM – 10:00pm (doors 7:30pm)

£10/£6

Through Zinn’s sharp wit and passionate writing, we revisit Marx not as a distant historical figure but as a thinker whose critiques of power, class and inequality still echo today, Our Karl.

In this new staging, we explore what has changed since Marx’s time – and what has stubbornly remained the same. We ask: where do his theories still resonate in modern society, and where do they fall short? Set against the backdrop of our own communities new and old, this production invites audiences to engage critically with Marx’s writings and teachings, reflecting on capitalism, justice, conflict and social change in the 21st century.

Blending humour, politics, and performance, this production aims to start a conversation – not about what Marx did believe, but about what we still believe.

Expect sharp words, a bit of chaos, and maybe a few uncomfortable truths.

William Callahan – Actor William Callahan is a performer, comedian, and politically minded storyteller whose work blends sharp humor with bold, thought-provoking theatre. With more than a decade of experience on stage, he has honed his craft through stand-up comedy, dramatic performance, and character-driven storytelling that engages audiences on multiple levels.

His theatrical roots trace back to local drama productions, where he took on challenging roles in acclaimed plays such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and The Last Days of Judas Iscariot. These early experiences sparked a passion for work that carries weight – stories that entertain while provoking reflection, questioning assumptions, and connecting audiences to deeper social and historical themes.

Drawn particularly to pieces that illuminate the past, William thrives in projects that reimagine historical figures and moments with fresh urgency. Whether performing comedy or drama, his guiding mission is consistent: to explore truth, politics, and the complexities of human nature, creating performances that resonate long after the curtain falls.

William will be both performing in and adapting this piece, bringing his distinctive voice and perspective to the work.

Sara-Jade Davidson – Director/Producer Sara-Jade Davidson is a comedian and writer with over a decade of experience creating dynamic, politically engaged work. She has been producing the Accidental Theatre’s Scratch Nights for the past year, curating new writing and performance with a focus on bold voices and innovative storytelling.

With 13 years of stand-up comedy experience, Sara-Jade has written and performed extensively across the UK and Ireland. She supported Shazia Mirza at Imagine 2019, has been featured multiple times on BBC Radio Ulster, and created work for BBC Tight Shorts. In addition to producing several of her own shows, she founded and programmed The Bitter Fringes, her own comedy festival at Accidental Theatre.

Her creative practice centres on feminism, LGBTQ+ rights, politics, and post-colonialism — themes that shape both her performance and her approach to directing and producing. For this project, Sara-Jade will be leading the production and direction, bringing her sharp comedic sensibility and commitment to socially conscious storytelling to the forefront.
