Join us for a powerful evening as award-winning journalist and author Anne Cadwallader launches her debut novel, Crossing Over. Marking a compelling shift from investigative non-fiction to historical fiction, Anne will be joined by Academy Award-nominated actor Stephen Rea. Followed by an audience Q&A.
About the Book It is 1987. Belfast is burning, Westminster is looking away, and the legal system is a thin veneer for a fractured reality. Lena Dawson arrives from London armed with a law degree and a sense of certainty that is quickly dismantled.
Tasked with defending a leading loyalist, Lena soon finds herself entangled in a web of conspiracy that stretches from the city’s back streets to the highest echelons of government. Challenged by an IRA ‘godfather’ to investigate the police killing of his brother, Lena must navigate bitter internal clashes and a powerful legal establishment determined to keep the status quo.
A haunting blend of legal intrigue, political tension, and romance, Crossing Over is a raw, authentic exploration of morality in a world where the most dangerous enemy is the truth itself. Fans of Anna Burns’ Milkman and Louise Kennedy’s Trespasses will find a story of immense courage and the devastating cost of justice.
Following the discussion, Anne will be available to sign copies of Crossing Over.
