The climate crisis represents a widespread denial of rights in vulnerable communities, and a failure by wealthy countries and corporations to deliver on their human rights and climate justice obligations and responsibilities. This event will explore why we need urgent action, and the role governments must play in a fair and funded fossil fuel phase out, from the perspective of both climate and human rights obligations.

We will be joined by:

  • Sinéad Loughran, Trócaire’s Climate Justice Policy and Advocacy Advisor – Sinéad will share her expertise on the steps that must be taken by policymakers to address the climate crisis.
  • Jackline Mugoboka, Trócaire Rwanda’s Climate Change & Resilience Programme Coordinator – Jackline works on Trócaire’s climate projects in Rwanda and sees the impact the climate crisis is having on communities there. She will share those experiences and the work Trócaire and our partners are doing to help communities meet the challenges they are facing.
  • Prof. Geraint Ellis, Stop Whitehead Oil Terminal Campaign Group – Geraint is a member of the Stop Whitehead Oil Terminal campaign, which has been successfully resisting the development on Belfast Lough for over seven years. He will share the story of the campaign against new fossil fuel infrastructure here at home.
